This post is written with the girl child in mind. The world we live in today is difficult and hard. Girls are being disadvantaged every where, cases of child abuse, sexual violence, female genital mutilation, modern slavery, young girls being forced into early marriages, the list is inexhaustible.
We celebrated Mother’s day on Sunday and I was in such reflective mood most of the day as I kept thinking about these things. Mother’s are nurturers and are very protective of their own offsprings, It makes me ask the question of “Where are the Mothers”. If there’s still so much of these going on in this present day and age, although it isn’t as prevalent as it used to be as there is so much awareness nowadays, but the statistics still very high. For example In Nigeria 1 in 4 girls experiences sexual violence before they reach the age of 18. Shocking isn’t it?#Sighs#
Sometime last week I read on an online news platform where individuals are being asked to donate sanitary towels alongside food for food banks in the United Kingdom because some girls are missing school in some parts of the country because they cannot afford sanitary towels. They miss school a couple of days every month during their cycle. If this happens in a western country, think about how bad it is for those girls in Africa, who probably do not even have access to toilet papers or even good water. Later on in the year, I am planning to go to Africa and distribute sanitary towels in large quantities in some rural localities. I know I cannot reach everyone, however I am willing to make as much difference as I can in a young girl’s life as little as i can. So if it means exploring some parts of Africa so be it.
The Singer/Songwriter sang a song titled WE ARE THE CHOSEN ONES here is just a part of the chorus which reminds me of why I’m here “We are the Chosen ones, We all share the same sun, We all want to love and be loved, We bleed the same blood. We are the ones who change, We all have what it takes, We all want to love and be loved, We bleed the same blood.”
God has put you in the world for such a time as this, be that difference and make that difference. Help a girl Child. Lend a helping hand.
Be blessed.
Until I come your way the next time Remember you are Abba’s own.
